In 2019, I had the pleasure of working with the Milwaukee Preservation Association to host the Rust Belt Takeover of Milwaukee (click here for full itinerary). Working with the MPA's board members was a pleasure and their hard work to preserve Milwaukee's diverse heritage was impressed upon me during the Takeover. Two projects, which stand out are the MPA's efforts to save the Mitchell Park Domes and the VA Soldiers Home.  Both of these sites are National Treasures and tell very different parts of Milwaukee's heritage. The Soldiers Home is currently being updated to provide housing for "veterans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless" and the Domes are still a bit in limbo, but each public meeting shows the impact of MPA's advocacy to raise community awareness of these iconic structures (seriously, you'll see posters and shirts and postcards with the domes throughout the city).

Consider applying for this position and working with MPA to push their preservation efforts further. You'll fall in love with the city's architecture, history, and the lovely Lake Michigan.
