Under the direction of the Director Community and Economic Development, this position works with all facets of the City’s Main Street program utilizing the Four Point Approach of Main Street: Organization, Design, Economic Restructuring and Promotions; administers all activities of the Texas Main Street Program including records maintenance, meeting agendas/minutes, and required reporting. Develops and maintains effective Main Street partnerships with board members/committees, city staff, civic/professional organizations, downtown businesses, and the Texas Main Street staff. Assists with current Main Street promotions including Wonderland of Lights, Second Saturday Car Shows, Twilight Tunes summer concert series, and Market on the Square; and with the creation/development of new Marshall festivities. Serves as liaison to downtown merchants, restaurant owners and event coordinators. Assists in fundraising efforts, seeks donations, researches and pursues grants and other available funding sources. Researches property ownership/history, assists with incentive development/marketing, and identification of potential property restoration/renovation. Oversees operation of the downtown Visitor’s Center and its internship program, social media platforms, and development of a strong volunteer base. Performs additional duties as apparent and/or assigned.


Bachelor’s degree with major course work in hospitality/tourism management, event planning, historic preservation, advertising/marketing, or related field plus 2 years of experience in an economic development, Main Street, downtown development, or tourism development setting preferred. Must have extensive experience with current marketing/advertising/promotional activities including graphic design, brochure development, and social media outlets. Requires excellent organizational skills, handling multiple projects concurrently, and ability to work an irregular schedule including frequent evenings/weekends. Must have a public service and community-oriented attitude with proven ability to communicate and work effectively in a team environment with boards/commissions, staff, volunteers, merchants, restaurant/hotel management, and the general public.
