Bio

Born in Sugarland, Texas, Dr. Andrea Roberts is the founder of the Texas Freedom Colonies Project. She was an Emerging Scholar Fellow at UT School of Architecture 2016-17. A graduate of the Community & Regional Planning PhD program in 2016, Dr. Roberts served on the City of Austin Historic Landmark Commission 2013-2015. She brings to her scholarship 12 years’ experience in community and economic development, a MA in Governmental Administration and Public Finance from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Vassar College. Her research frames planning and historic preservation as social justice practices. She is specifically concerned with grassroots planning history and contemporary preservation practices within freedmen’s settlements. She joins Texas A &M University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, Fall 2017
