The Economic and Fiscal Impact on Maine Of Historic Preservation and The State Historic Preservation Tax Credit (2015)

05-23-2016 02:05

Research undertaken by Planning Decisions for Maine Preservation found that the state’s historic tax credit impacts communities in four main ways: 1) sets in motion economic ripple effects throughout the regions where rehabilitations occur; 2)  brings some new businesses to the community which adds new jobs; 3) the operational activities that occur in the rehabilitated buildings create their own ripple effects throughout the HTC project’s region; and 4) uses existing community infrastructure—such as roads, sewers, and power lines—which saves taxpayer money.
