Jenny,
When you talk about character, are you looking more into things like the architecture and physical structure or more interpretive experiences, like visitor experience?
The Forum blog has a lot of examples of the later -- I was just reading this one about Lincoln's Cottage yesterday (mainly bc I'm running a 5K there this weekend and sending out information to my running colleagues about the site!) But it talks about seeking qualitative experiences from visitors rather than just the hard facts (# of visitors, duration of visit, etc) to lead to a better visitor experience. (
Proving the Power of Place: President Lincoln's Visitor Impact Study).
Hope that helps a little!
Thanks,
Colleen

Greetings,
I am seeking examples of new and innovative practices for preserving the character of locally designated individual landmarks and districts.
Thanks in advance!
