Welcome to Houston—virtually and in person! We are now on site for the National Trust’s Annual conference: PastForward.

While the conference officially kicks off today, yesterday attendees enjoyed Texas hospitality at a reception where the National Trust unveiled the report on the federal historic tax credit in Texas, and presented the John H. Chafee Award for Outstanding Public Policy Achievement to the Texas Historical Commission. The rest of the National Preservation Awards will be presented throughout the week.

For Virtual Attendees

We will be live-streaming the keynote speeches this week. Due to technical considerations, the Opening Plenary won’t be available live, but we will put it up on the National Trust’s YouTube page by Thursday morning. To watch all three of our TrustLives and the Closing Luncheon live, just visit the virtual attendance page for the full schedule.

Note: Theaster Gates’ Closing Luncheon speech will only be available via livestream, so make sure to tune in!

More updates will be available via Twitter. Just follow #PastForward via @saveplaceslive. Read about the other social channels that you can follow here.

For Attendees

Registration is open today from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is located on the second floor of the Hilton Americas-Houston.

If you haven’t already download the PastForward app, you should do it right away because this year we’re trying something new: gamification! You can earn points and badges for a variety of things throughout the conference—learn more here.

Note: Field Studies leave from the second floor of the Convention Center—follow the signs!

We hope you will join us for the Opening Plenary at the Jesse H. Jones Hall, followed by the Opening Reception in Sam Houston Park. After the plenary, you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase a copy of The Past and Future City: How Historic Preservation is Reviving America's Communities by National Trust President Stephanie K. Meeks—and get it signed!

One last thing: Keep an eye out for the Houston photo frame, pose with it, and post the pictures to Twitter or Instagram with our official hashtag: #PastForward. The frame will be at various locations throughout the conference, including the Opening Reception at Sam Houston Park. Have some fun, let people know that you’re at PastForward in Houston, and earn some gamification points!
